NeNe Leakes and husband Gregg Leakes got real about the state of their marriage on Sunday’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion.
After a season full of hardships, the couple revealed they are still at odds — sleeping in separate rooms in their home while seeing a counselor to work through their problems.
Asked if they hope to save their marriage, Gregg, 63, told reunion host Andy Cohen that he does, but NeNe, 51, said she is still unsure.
“I can’t tell you anything that I’m going to do,” she said. I feel like I have been pushed up against a wall and I’m coming out as ‘no.’ … Anything is possible, we just have to see.”

This isn’t the first time NeNe and Gregg have experienced troubles in their marriage.
The couple wed in 1997 and stayed together until 2010, when they separated amid a series of nasty fights that played out on RHOA‘s third season. They divorced the following year, only to remarry in June 2013 at a ceremony that was filmed for her spinoff, I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding.
So what exactly was tearing them apart this time? According to NeNe and Gregg, it was a combination of things, including what NeNe called Gregg’s negative attitude during his battle with stage 3 colon cancer.
NeNe had previously spoke out about Gregg’s attitude toward her in November, tweeting, “I would just think if I have or had cancer, I would see life so differently! Not being mean, grouchy and evil for no real reason! But that’s me. Pray for me.”
She received a significant amount of backlash for her comments, with some fans slamming her as insensitive. But at the reunion, Gregg stood up for her and admitted to holding the blunt of the blame.
“It was difficult at times,” Gregg admitted. “I’m not a poster child for kindness.”
“Nobody’s perfect,” he added, hinting that NeNe shared some responsibility. “There was some times, but most times it was on me.”

Back in January, Gregg publicly apologized to NeNe for their troubles.
“I’m tired of hurting my wife who is only trying to take good care of me and wants only the best for me too. She deserves much more for her hard efforts and tireless hours spent on me,” he wrote on Instagram. “I pray to God to get it together… she’s done NO wrong… this is ALL on me. Cancer will change your life.”
Though Gregg seemed to be blaming everything on his cancer then, he and NeNe said at the reunion that their troubles dated back to before his diagnosis.
“Gregg is not a walk in the park. Not even if he didn’t have cancer, he is not a walk in the park,” NeNe said. “Our relationship is not great. It really put a strain on us.”
In fact, Gregg’s cancer might be something that is keeping them together. “It would be easy to make a decision about divorcing Gregg if he didn’t have cancer,” NeNe said, implying that she would have left him by now. “I don’t want to live my life unhappy.”
Ultimately, both admitted that they could see a life without each other.
“The reward might not necessarily be that we are husband and wife at the end,” said Gregg. “The reward might be that we are best of friends at the end.”
“It’s tough. We are family, period. Whether we are together or we are not, we share a 20-year-old son,” said NeNe, referencing their son Brent. (She also has another son — Bryson, 29 — from a previous relationship, while he has five other kids). “I’m always going to be here for Gregg.”
Since the filming of the RHOA reunion, NeNe and Gregg have remained together. Earlier this month, she celebrated alongside him as he completed his six months of chemotherapy treatment. “It’s been a long emotional ride for our entire family!” NeNe wrote on Instagram. “Awesome job hunni! I’m so happy for you and the strength you showed during this difficult time in your life.”
The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays (8 p.m. ET) on Bravo.
