Jamie Lynn Spears Shares Throwback Photo with Her Big Sister as Britney Seeks Treatment

Jamie Lynn Spears is supporting Britney Spears, just as her big sis did for her years ago.

Hours after PEOPLE confirmed that Britney, 37, had checked into a facility for “all-encompassing wellness treatment,” Jamie Lynn, 28, sent a message of support to the pop star on Instagram.

In honor of #WomanCrushWednesday, Jamie Lynn shared an adorable throwback photo from her first day of school, where she was captured beaming as she stepped off the bus in her polo, denim skirt, and backpack. Right behind her was Britney, who stuck her tongue out for the camera.

“Yup, she rode the bus home with me after my first day of school, cuz she’s the fn best #WCW👯‍♀️💕” Jamie Lynn captioned the sweet post.

Earlier on Wednesday, Britney posted a picture of a quote on Instagram which read “Fall in love with taking care of yourself, mind, body, spirit,” along with the caption: “We all need to take time for a little ‘me time.’ :)”

A source told PEOPLE exclusively that the singer checked into a facility for “all-encompassing wellness treatment.”

According to another source close to the family, “Britney just needed to focus on herself” as she cares for her father Jamie, 66, after his “life-threatening” colon rupture, the source confirmed.

“Her dad being sick has taken a toll on her,” the source told PEOPLE. “He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He’s not doing well. They’re so close and it has been a lot. There is nothing dramatic going on with her — she just realized she needs to make sure to take time to care for herself.”

While gearing up for a return to the Las Vegas strip with her show Domination after taking wildly successful Vegas show Britney: Piece of Me on tour over the summer, Britney announced that she was taking an indefinite break from work in January to support her father.

“I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say,” she wrote in an emotional tweet, posting an old photo of her posing with both her parents, Jamie and Lynne, 63. “I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart.”

“However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make,” she elaborated in a follow-up tweet. “A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him.”

Britney’s first residency had grossed over $100 million in ticket sales as of January 2017 and had been seen by over 700,000 fans, but family came first for the singer.

“I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family,” explained Britney — whose new Las Vegas residency was set to launch at the Park Theater at Park MGM in February — in a statement obtained by PEOPLE at the time. “We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me.”

As the statement explained, the singer “has been tremendously involved with caring for her family, and as a result of health issues and ongoing recovery, she is going to take time off.”

Jamie Lynn has also spoken out about her father and thanked her fans for the outpouring of support in the wake of his health emergency.

“Thank you to everyone who reached out to our family, and for all of your prayers,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories. “All of you have been there for us through so much, and we truly appreciate each of you!! Love y’all bunches!”

The Spears clan, and in particular, the sisters, have already proven to be a tight-knit bunch.

In 2017, the family had to rally together for support when Jamie’s then 8-year-old daughter Maddie had a scary ATV accident that left her unconscious for nearly two days.

Maddie, now 10, has since recovered, but Britney reached out for prayers over social media at the time.

Most recently, in October, Jamie Lynn brought her youngest daughter Ivey, whom she shares with husband Jamie Watson, to watch her aunt perform live for the very first time.

Posting a video of herself dancing to “Work B**ch” by her big sister with Ivey, who will turn 1 next month, wearing noise-canceling earmuffs, Jamie Lynn wrote, “Ivey’s first time seeing her Auntie Britney💕.”

The Zoey 101 alum, who’s been married to Watson since 2014, recently opened up in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE about her hopes for her daughters’ bond because they share the same age gap as she does with Britney: 10 years.

“I’m hoping they have the same kind of relationship where it was like a second mom, almost,” she said of her big sister. “It’s gonna be a special relationship. Sisters are something special — especially when there’s that age gap there.”
