Shum and his wife revealed they were expecting their first child together back in November.
The Crazy Rich Asians star shared the news by posting a photo of the couple on social media. In the image, the actor stood behind his wife — whose baby bump was clearly visible — so that only his hands, which were placed over his wife’s stomach, were visible.
Making a comically surprised face, the expectant mother, who is also an actress, held her hands up to her cheeks.

Ahead of his daughter’s arrival, the actor opened up to PEOPLE about how excited he was to teach his first child — who was born in the Chinese zodiac’s Year of the Pig, just like her mom — to make dumplings.
“We’re going to see how her little fingers will make dumplings and what age she can do that herself!” Shum said last month.
“That was always a fun thing for kids to do. There are so many traditions. I hope to continue the tradition to decorate the whole house with red lanterns and locks turned upside down for good luck,” he continued.
“When my mom makes dumplings, she is an expert — I’m just trying to keep food inside the dough,” joked the Glee alum. “I’m hoping to pass it on so my wife and I can be expert-level dumpling makers and be able to pass that down to our kids.”
He said he also hoped his baby girl will have some of the traits of the female characters in Crazy Rich Asians.

“The humor of Peik Lin Goh to keep the household laughing, but I think Astrid’s character is really beautiful and has such a place in her heart, from empathy,” Shum said of Awkwafina and Gemma Chan’s portrayals, respectively.
“Culturally, that is really important, and has a huge role in making sure the family is the primary goal and bringing it together,” he added.
